Programs For Home Buyers

Working with local community churches, credit unions, and realtors, TAHO can help your dream of home ownership become reality.

The American dream of home ownership offers families opportunities and benefits over renting, but with home ownership comes some challenges and new responsibilities.  At TAHO, we want our members to learn about home ownership prior to purchasing a home.  After your purchase, we provide ongoing counseling when needed, and we even provide a payment protection plan should you become sick, disabled or lose your job.

The best way to learn more about our programs, meet our staff and see if your family qualifies for a gift is to contact us about attending one of our Thursday evening workshops.

Three Easy Steps to Home Ownership

Personal Financial Analysis
The first step towards qualifying for our gift program is to schedule a one to two hour intake session. This is for members only, and we require a one-time $300.00 tax deductible contribution to become a member.  During the intake session, one of our representatives will review your bank and credit card statements and all previous loan activity.  Together we will determine your monthly disposable income and determine how much of a payment you can afford.   After the personal financial analysis, if for any reason we cannot provide a gift, we will refund your $300.00 membership dues.

Home Buying Seminar
Step two comes after you have qualified for our down payment gift.  We ask you and your family to attend our one hour home buying seminar.  At the home buying seminar, you will learn how the real estate sales and loan process works, meet some of our member Realtors, and receive a complimentary copy of "How to Make Your Realtor Get You the Best Deal".  At the seminar, our Realtors and staff can answer any questions you may have regarding available HUD homes, or brand new homes from builders who support our programs.

Home Owner Counseling
The final step prior to obtaining your gift certificate is attending our one hour homeowner counseling session where you will learn about your new loan, taxes, insurance, and escrow funds. You will learn how to reduce your taxes and file for a Texas Homestead exemption.  We will also provide all the details of our six month Payment Protection Plan in the event you get ill or lose your job.
